The Mids Will Get ND If they Don't Watch Out!
The question most asked the Irish faithful is, "what did we learn from the Western Michigan game?"
We don't know about the rest of you Notre Dame diehards, but we learned once again that over-all the Irish made a poor showing, with the exception of Michael Floyd, against a team that came in lacking in all aspects of the game. And, to think there were Orange Bowl officials in the stands. Apparently, their plane had to land in Indiana for a layover and there was no Indy500.
The Irish also were consistent in making another "no-name" QB into a "big-game" Slinger at least in the first half. Thanks to a poor pass rush, once again, and poor coverage by the secondary, once again, the Broncos were, in effect, unloading on ND's anticipated game-ending victory parade thru the tunnel.. The half-time headline could have read: "Shit Storm Brewing in South Bend---Broncos Crapping on Irish Defense."
Somehow, Coach Brian Kelly ripped into his players at half-time, cut out their yellow bellies and pissed in the holes, otherwise he got the defense ready to play in the second half with some "steam"...and they did. The players went to the locker room sporting a 4-3 winning record.
Come Satuday at High Noon, the Fighting Irish will try to figure out the triple option of the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy, something they haven't done very well over the past four games, although winning a couple. Coach Unpronounceable will have the Middies ready to kick leprechaun ass, you can bet on that. This is a tough team and effective in the rock and roll offense. It will be interesting to see if the Irish are wide awake at 12pm EST.
Other than the obvious that Notre Dame must contain the triple offense with a full-alert, bend-but-don't-break defense, Dayne Crist must sink the Navy with long bombs to Floyd (if he plays), early and often, and pinpointers to Eifert and Kamara (not below them or behind them).Pass up and at Jones, long and short. The Irish will not need a high-octane rushing attack to beat the Mids. Cierre Wood can keep them honest.
There is no need to worry about the Navy's somewhat secret weapon, the Forward Pass. ND will have next week to worry about that scheme when they face the almost one-dimensional offense of Tulsa University---pass on nearly every down. It doesn't matter if it is complete, incomplete, or intercepted.
If Notre Dame comes to play effectively for two full halves, Navy should go down by four touchdowns.
We shall see, what we shall see, and what we really learned from the WMU game.
