Presenting Brian Kelly and The Heartbreakers

LAMENTATION

Brian Kelly allows as how Notre Dame must win two out of the next three games to be bowl-eligible at
6-6. Yes, coach, we know that.

But which two teams will the Irish beat: Utah and Army, Utah and USC, Army and USC?

We believe that foolish, flopped pass Kelly called for a coffin corner TD, said bye-bye to a bowl game and probably a winning season or a  six-draw.  I mean Tulsa, for crissakes, they lost to Tulsa.

There is no reason to believe, based on what we have seen on the gridiron so far,  that ND can beat Utah or USC and let's face it, if Duke can whip Navy, then Army can throttle the Irish.  We may be lookin' at 4-8.

And, that realistic prospect breaks our hearts, just like Kelly and his lads from South Bend have been doing most of this season, especially in the clutch when the game is on the line.

Watching ND's ground game is more or less boring than observing your daughter playing 'Chutes and Ladders' (when is mom coming home?). Wherefore Art Thou, Johnny Lattner?

It was sad to see Crist go down, but honestly, did the Irish have a big void because of it? Methinks not.  Rees is probably a better spread QB and he performed rather admirably coming in cold turkey.

No, it matters not that the freshman is at the helm or injuries abound.  It's something else.  A team that is waiting to be defined as a winner when it's as a loser they are more definable. What the hell has happened to Notre Dame tradition, Irish pride?

Adrian Cuff, up in the stands and surrounded by several Irish faithful, said that in the closing seconds as ND moved the ball to the 20 yard line, there wasn't one fan who thought they could pull the game out, despite the momentum and a very good field goal kicker in the wings.  That, my friends, is the lack of confidence there is in this team and this coach.  Pretty damn sad. Notre Dame stadium has become HeartBreak City.

If you want to refocus your attention during this coming bye week, watch the Breeder's Cup Classic.
There you will see a true champion, a real competitor, a clutch closer: Zenyatta.
