Here Come The Irish
Playing before crowds of 80 thousand-plus, is no big deal for the Bulls of the University of South Florida.
They've had five of these tests on the road and have won four. Whipping some damn good teams.
They won't be scared by the fervor of the multitude of Notre Dame fans in the stands this Saturday. This is an excellent team, squad, coaching staff and a coach who has been there before....many times, watching his old man take the Fighting Irish to new heights in college polls and a national championship to boot.
That was then, and this is now for Skip Holtz, and he faces an uphill battle against a seasoned and talented
team on both sides of the ball. His team has been picked by many analyst to win the Big East Conference; a few believe USF can beat ND.
Forget it!
The Fighting Irish have not been the same since Lou Holtz was the mentor. But that has changed.....finally.
Brian Kelly has a team that has all the strengths (except at punt returning, which is a big question) needed to compete for a BCS bowl and, indeed, the national championship.
They have an outstanding coach and staff, in sync and with teaching skills that have been lacking during the previous umpteen years. The players, many are multi-talented Freshmen, know their positions well, the nuances, and the attitude to excell and even get better---not fading in the stretch and losing to teams they should have beaten.
These lads will come to play to the end, every game---never bowing down or out.
Please be assured.
Cheer, cheer for ol Notre Dame.
You won't be disappointed.
E-Mail from Jack/Massachusetts: I believe Manti Teo and Michael Floyd will be strong first team All-American candidates. What say you?
Irish Brogue: Agreed. Don't count out Zach Martin and Harrison Smith. Braxton Cave also shows well on the AA tote board.
